GARLAND inc. (the “Company”) establishes this Privacy Policy (this “Policy”) regarding the handling of users’ personal information in the websites and web services provided by the Company (collectively, the “Services”). Individual services may have their own separate provisions on privacy; in that case, those provisions also apply.
Article 1 (Personal Information)
“Personal information” means “personal information” as defined in the Act on the Protection of Personal Information of Japan: information about a living individual by which the specific individual can be identified from the name, date of birth, address, telephone number, contact details or other descriptions contained in that information, as well as information by which a specific individual can be identified from that information alone, such as data relating to appearance, fingerprints or voiceprints, and individual identification codes.
Article 2 (How Personal Information Is Collected)
When users register or contact us, the Company may ask for personal information such as their name and email address. For paid services, the Company may also obtain payment-related information through the payment service providers it uses.
Article 3 (Purposes of Collecting and Using Personal Information)
The Company collects and uses personal information for the following purposes:
- To provide and operate the Services
- To respond to inquiries from users (including verifying identity)
- To send information about new features, updates and campaigns of the services users are using, and about other services provided by the Company
- To contact users as necessary, such as about maintenance or important notices
- To identify users who violate the Terms of Use or attempt to use the Services for fraudulent or improper purposes, and to refuse their use
- To allow users to view, change or delete their own registration information and view their usage status
- To charge users fees for paid services
- For purposes incidental to the purposes above
Article 4 (Changes to the Purposes of Use)
The Company will change the purposes of use of personal information only where the new purposes are reasonably recognized as being related to the previous purposes. If the purposes of use are changed, the Company will notify users of the new purposes by a method prescribed by the Company or announce them on this website.
Article 5 (Provision of Personal Information to Third Parties)
Except in the cases listed below, the Company will not provide personal information to third parties without obtaining the user’s prior consent, other than where permitted by the Act on the Protection of Personal Information or other laws and regulations. Namely: where it is necessary to protect a person’s life, body or property and it is difficult to obtain the person’s consent; where it is especially necessary to improve public health or promote the sound growth of children and it is difficult to obtain the person’s consent; or where it is necessary to cooperate with a national agency, local government or a party entrusted by them in carrying out duties prescribed by law, and obtaining the person’s consent is likely to impede those duties.
The following do not constitute provision to a third party under this Article: entrusting the handling of personal information to an outside business within the scope necessary to achieve the purposes of use (see Article 13); provision in connection with the succession of business due to a merger or other reasons; and joint use with specific parties in accordance with the Act on the Protection of Personal Information. When entrusting such handling, the Company will exercise necessary and appropriate supervision over the entrusted party.
Article 6 (Disclosure of Personal Information)
When requested by the person concerned to disclose their personal information, the Company will disclose it to them without delay. However, the Company may decline to disclose all or part of it where disclosure is likely to harm the life, body, property or other rights and interests of the person or a third party, where it is likely to seriously hinder the proper conduct of the Company’s business, or where it would otherwise violate laws and regulations. If the Company decides not to disclose, it will notify the person to that effect without delay.
Article 7 (Correction and Deletion of Personal Information)
If the personal information about a user held by the Company is incorrect, the user may request the Company to correct, add to or delete it (“correction, etc.”) through the procedure prescribed by the Company. If the Company receives such a request and judges it necessary to comply, it will make the correction, etc. without delay.
Article 8 (Suspension of Use of Personal Information, etc.)
If the person concerned requests the suspension of use or erasure (“suspension of use, etc.”) of their personal information on the grounds that it is being handled beyond the scope of the purposes of use or that it was obtained by improper means, the Company will conduct the necessary investigation without delay, carry out the suspension of use, etc. to the extent necessary based on the results, and notify the person to that effect.
Article 9 (Procedure for Requests for Disclosure, etc.)
If you wish to request disclosure, correction, addition, deletion, suspension of use or erasure, etc. of retained personal data as set out in the preceding three Articles (“requests for disclosure, etc.”), please contact us at the address given at the end of this page. When handling requests for disclosure, etc., the Company will verify your identity by a method prescribed by the Company. For requests made by an agent, we may ask for documents confirming the agent’s authority. In principle, no fee is charged for requests for disclosure, etc.; however, the Company may charge a reasonable fee it prescribes for requests for notification of the purposes of use, or for disclosure, of retained personal data.
Article 10 (Security Control Measures)
The Company takes organizational, personnel, physical and technical security control measures as necessary and appropriate to prevent leakage, loss or damage of the personal information it handles and otherwise to manage it securely. When entrusting the handling of personal information to an outside party, the Company exercises necessary and appropriate supervision over that party. For questions about our security control measures, please contact us at the address given at the end of this page.
Article 11 (Changes to This Privacy Policy)
The contents of this Policy may be changed without notice to users, except as otherwise provided by laws and regulations or by this Policy. Unless otherwise specified by the Company, the revised Privacy Policy takes effect when it is posted on this website.

Article 13 (Use of External Services)
In providing the Services, the Company may use outside service providers for purposes such as email delivery, payments, access analysis and hosting. The Company may entrust these providers with the handling of personal information within the scope necessary to achieve the purposes of use, and will exercise necessary and appropriate supervision over them. Details of the specific external services used and how they handle information may be provided separately for individual services.
Article 14 (Use of Access Analysis Tools and Cookies)
To understand how the Services are used and to improve them, the Company may use access analysis tools such as “Google Analytics” provided by Google LLC. These tools collect usage information using cookies and information about devices and browsing. The Company endeavors to obtain and use this information in a form that does not include information directly identifying individuals; however, the handling of cookies and similar information is also subject to the policies of each tool provider.
